Nyack Village Board Backs Downtown Redevelopment

In a big step for Riverspace’s future plans, the Nyack Village Board voted to move forward with downtown redevelopment at their April 23 meeting. The 3-2 vote authorized a request for proposals (RFP) to redevelop our theater’s home block (from Cedar to Franklin Street, including the parking lot) and to create a citizen’s committee to set guidelines for the redevelopment. Riverspace will now be able to submit a formal proposal to build a new cultural center, to be supported by income from the new retail and residential properties included in the redevelopment.

Thank you to all the supporters who stood up for Riverspace at the Village Board meeting. Special thanks to County Legislative Leader Harriet Cornell, Orangetown Supervisor Thom Kleiner and Nyack NAACP President Frances Pratt for their eloquent speeches on behalf of Riverspace and the downtown project.

NAACP Nyack President Frances Pratt shares her thoughts on diversity in a conversation led by Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee
On Thursday night, over 100 women leaders in Rockland joined together to brainstorm the next steps of Riverspace’s journey! Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee and the women members of the Board of Directors made presentations, followed by break-out sessions in which smaller groups focused on business relationships, diversity, fundraising in the community and effective communication. Now, on to the work of following up on the many ideas and feedback that emerged from the brainstorming. Thank you to all our participants. If you missed the meeting and would like to join in the follow-up please contact Stephanie at Shausner@riverspace.org.

Thanks for Signing the Petition to Support Riverspace's Future
Thank you to everyone who has signed our statement supporting our plans to revitalize downtown Nyack and secure Riverspace’s future through a green economic redevelopment project. The public response in Nyack and throughout Rockland County has been overwhelmingly positive. Continued strong public support for this powerful idea is essential to moving the project forward. Please help spread the word and encourage your friends to Sign the Petition.
