On Sunday plunge into history with High Tor! Riverspace and Elmwood Playhouse join together to present a staged reading of High Tor, written by the 1937 Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright
and New City resident Maxwell Anderson. The play, which opened on Broadway that year and won a New York Drama Critics Circle Award, centers on the character Van Doren's fight with the company
that wanted to "chew the back right off this mountain." Because of the play, Anderson, who lived on South Mountain Road, which runs along the base of High Tor, is largely credited with galvanizing
the successful movement to save the mountain from excavation. For more info click here.
Then on June 19th from 6-7 PM join us for a dessert reception to kick off ARTWALK 2009. Acclaimed artist and Nyack resident John Beerman has made a painting of the "Half Moon” near Hook
Mountain. The Half Moon is the ship Henry Hudson sailed in 1609. This gorgeous painting, the face of the Quadricentennial, will be gifted to President Obama by The American Heritage Rivers
Alliance. Prints will be available for purchase, with a portion of the sale price to be donated to Riverspace. All are welcome.
The Sounds of Music...
Last week Riverspace hosted two packed musical performances to kick-off and end Memorial Day weekend. On Friday, May 22 Dick Voigt and The Big Apple Jazz Band played a sold out performance
for a room full of adoring fans. On Tuesday, May 26th The Principal Brass of the NY Philharmonic brought their considerable gifts to a virtuoso performance of classical and pop music. The
audience demonstrated that classical music can pack ‘em in! Read about it Rockland Journal News.
