A Green, Sustainable Future. Sustainability and Energy Efficiency.
Riverspace is committed to an economically and environmentally sustainable future. The new cultural complex and commercial properties will feature
cutting-edge technology and design elements that create jobs, reduce energy costs, and protect the environment for Riverspace and our neighbors.
The proposed buildings will incorporate energy-saving measures like energy-efficiency equipment, appliances and exterior envelopes. The majority
of demolition waste from the existing site will be recycled. The new buildings will include regionally sourced as well as significant amounts of recycled
and environmentally friendly materials. Planted 'green' roofs will provide water on site retention and assist with municipal storm water management.
To minimize its visual and environmental impact, the parking structure will be surrounded with an evergreen plant screen.
The Riverspace downtown project will be in scale and stylistic harmony with the older village. The re-alignment of existing city streets will sub-divide
the site into shorter, pedestrian friendly blocks and provide greater daylight for the new buildings. The new public plaza will link the old and new
parts of downtown and create an open and accessible public gathering space. Reconfigured parking will expand the number of spaces available for local
residents and visitors while making better use of open space. The Riverspace plan incorporates features that encourage pedestrian, bicycle and public
transportation access from surrounding neighborhoods.
